Château Yquem at Hippopotamus Wellington

Date: 10-08-2018

Prepare to be spoilt by QT Museum Wellington’s signature restaurant, Hippopotamus Restaurant as it welcomes Château d’YQuem to the country. Hippopotamus has a reputation built on a quality menu, commanding wine list and skilled service team. Naturally, Château d'Yquem approached the French institution, to host their first winemaker’s dinner in the country. No stranger to this complex, concentrated and sweet drop, Hippopotamus is thrilled to present this world renowned wine in this August, one night only.

Deemed the world's greatest white wine, Château d'Yquem is located on a small hill in Sauternes, in the southern part of the Bordeaux vineyards. The vineyard’s impressive 400 years was brought to attention on the global wine stage as the first and only sweet wine to be recognised in the Grand Cru Classe de 1855 (The Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855), a wine considered so great it was granted a special Premier Cru Supérieur classification.

The evening will begin how all special nights should - with champagne and canapes. Guests can educate themselves further on how the high end vineyard benefits from an exceptional micro-climate while enjoying the company of the experts at Hippopotamus, Head Sommelier, Florent Souche and Executive Chef, Laurent Loudeac. Head Sommelier, Florent Souche proudly states that Hippopotamus’ wine list rivals most. “It’s an honour to host an event of this calibre. We serve Chateau d’Yquem’s 1988, 1990 and 2003 vintages and to be able to highlight our extensive offerings through a complete Hippopotamus experience from dining to hospitality - it will no doubt be a memorable evening.”
