Founded in 1860 by Louis Avon, Domaine du Montvac passed from women to women. It is today managed by Cecile Dussere, with her father Jean, a great oenologist. Cecile is the fifth generation at the domain, and is married to Philippe Cartoux, the owner of Domaine des Espiers. Philippe is also responsible for the work in the vineyards of the Domaine de Montvac. Together they produce wonderful Vacqueyras, Gigondas, and Cotes du Rhone.
Naturally, the whole estate is farmed organically, and is Ecocert certified. The soil is worked mechanically, but the architecture of the vines is crafted by hand. Here, the emblematic Grenache grape is dominant. On stony soils and on slopes well exposed to the sun, it produces all its generous flavour and symphony of aromas. Syrah, planted in the cooler soils, contributes structure and colour, while Mourvedre is used sparingly to increase the aromatic persistence of the final blend.
