Most of the winemakers in the patchwork of Burgundy’s great vineyards have inherited their vines through family ties that stretch back over many generations. Finding another way into viticulture in this diminutive region takes both patience and passion – qualities Olivier Bernstein has in abundance. He became a winemaker through choice rather than because of familial expectation.
In 2007 Olivier created a Maison which bears his name and which seeks to make very small, high quality volumes of Premiers and Grands Crus only. His deep knowledge of Burgundy and the winemakers there – for he has tasted consistently over the past ten years at such prestigious estates as the domaine de la Romanee Conti, and many other – enabled him to go back to his original love for Burgundies.
