Not since tasting in the cellars of Fred Savart have we been so inspired by a new Champagne producer. Adrien Renoir in his early 30s is one of an exciting new wave of vignerons who having taken over their family domaine, are now producing phenomenal Champagnes. With only a few vintages under his belt, Adrien has already managed to coax a tremendous elegance and finesse from his Grand Cru vines, all selection massale, in the Montagne de Reims. He is the 4th generation of the Renoir family making Champagne. Taking full control from his father in 2016, he immediately started to change the way things were done. There has been a switch to organic farming as well as biodynamic practises. A focus in the vineyard on individual terroirs and parcels, and in the winery a move away from stainless steel to fermentation and aging in oak of varying sizes, lees stirring and minimal sulphur. The Renoir’s own around 7 hectares of vines, 6 in Verzy and 1 in Tours-sur-Marne & Berru. In the Verzy plantings there are 3 prized lieu-dits of old vines selection massale - Les Montants planted in 1961, Les Epinettes 100% Pinot Noir planted in 1971, and Les Vignes Goisses 100% Pinot Meunierplanted in 1962. Maison Vauron receives one allocation of Champagne Adrien Renoir each year. To register your interest for next year's allocation please contact Scott Gray by emailing scott@mvauron.co.nz.
