It is with deep sadness that we share the news of Pierre Trimbach's passing on January 31st, 2026, following a car accident near the family's vineyards in Alsace at the age of 69. The 12th generation to steward Maison F. E. Trimbach, Pierre served as winemaker for 47 vintages since joining in 1979. His uncompromising commitment to dry, terroir-driven Riesling created wines of extraordinary integrity—from the legendary Clos Sainte Hune to the powerful grand cru bottlings that demanded patience and rewarded it with profound complexity. These were not wines that flattered in their youth; they were built like fortresses, confessions of faith in Alsace terroir that revealed their greatness only with time.Pierre's loss is felt deeply throughout the wine world and by all of us privileged to share Trimbach wines with New Zealand. We take comfort knowing that the 13th generation—led by Anne, Frédérique, and Julien—will continue his work in the spirit of the family's 400-year tradition. Our deepest condolences to the Trimbach family and all who knew Pierre. A giant of Alsace wine has left us, but his legacy endures in every bottle that bears the Trimbach name.
