2023 En Primeur
Quintessential Bordeaux
The last week of April will see all the press, critics and the big merchants from the UK, USA and Asia lining up in Bordeaux to taste the 2023 vintage out of barrel. The buzz and excitement around this is palpable, and like last year expectations are very high.
There are differences to the exceptional 2022s the main one being availability, as 2023 is a profligate vintage with above average yields. Hopefully this will put downward pressure on prices.
One thing that is undeniable is the quality, Bordeaux is in a renaissance period where the convergence of viticultural expertise, technical excellence and individual dynamism is creating possibly the best wines ever produced.

" In terms of style, the 2023 vintage is quite incredible […] The greatest danger of this 2023 is being overlooked because it follows 2022, but that would be a mistake. I will certainly have some in my cellar… "

WHAT TO BUY:
The word is these are terroir driven wines with beautiful fruit, ripe tannins and good acidity. People who did the work in the vineyard have produced some seriously WOW Cabernets. But don’t discount the Right Bank there are some stunners like Ch Canon.
As always we’ll be looking for not only the best wines, but also best value and undiscovered gems.
