Lemercier

Lemercier

Before 1800, Lemercier was a family of farmers settled in Grand-Fahys, in the town of Fougerolles, the oldest distillery of the town.

In addition to their crops, they had many orchards and from this produced Kirsch and Prune Water. But, little by little, their production of eaux-de-vie largely exceeded their personal and family needs and they became distillers of profession.

They also started making absinthe, a flourishing activity until it was banned in 1915. Their product is still under the decree that prohibits absinthe, that’s why none of the current producers of “absinthe” use the word absinthe to nominate its product.
