Ch Mouton Rothschild
Originally known as Chateau Brane-Mouton, before being renamed by Nathaniel de Rothschild in 1853, Chateau Mouton Rothschild covers 90 hectares of vines at Pauillac, in the Medoc. Its history is that of a magical encounter between a terroir and a man, the legendary Baron Philippe de Rothschild (1902-1988), renovator of Mouton and a pioneering figure in the world of wine. In 1973, Mouton was promoted to First Growth after lobbying by its powerful owner and the motto was then changed to “Premier je suis, Second je fus, Mouton ne change”. (First, I am. Second, I was. Mouton does not change.).
Having brilliantly enhanced the lustre of the family company and estates, Baroness Philippine left Mouton magnificently enlarged and modernised. Now her three children, Camille and Philippe Sereys de Rothschild and Julien de Beaumarchais de Rothschild, co-owners of the Chateau, are likewise perpetuating their mother’s dedication to excellence.
